MCC's Jay Hutchek, President of PDA, Lays Out Strategic Directions for Organization and Industry

Calls Upon Industry for Support

Plainfield, IN (MARCH 23, 2023) – MCC Equipment and Service Center (MCC), one of North America’s leading polyurea and spray foam distributors, announces owner Jay Hutchek elected as President of PDA (Polyurea Development Association) for 2023. Jay issued the following President's Letter to introduce himself, connect the organization to poly industry pros, and offer his views on the upcoming strategic directions he will be driving.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Jay Hutchek. I am the owner of MCC and newly elected President of PDA. I've been involved in the polyurea and coatings industry for over 23 years and I've sat on the PDA Board for the past two years. I'm happy to announce that I have been elected President of PDA for the term starting in 2023 and am proud to help guide this association into the next phase!

Firstly, I invite you to get more involved in the PDA organization. PDA has a wealth of opportunity, and volunteers are how our association runs. A few reasons you might consider joining:

  • Broaden your knowledge of the industry with our professional development programs.
  • Take charge of your career.
  • Enhance your network - probably the most overlooked, but the most rewarding.
  • Know the trends coming that will impact your business.
  • Help your bottom line with utilizing tools provided by PDA.

PDA has three committees that will be meeting in the next calendar year. They are, 2023 conference planning, membership/marketing, and education/technical committees. With all the changes in industry of recent years, now is really the best time to join (or renew) and get involved! It's knowledge and relationships that get you through the crazy times. If you have any experience and interest in any of the areas the committees cover I encourage you to contact myself or PDA Executive Director Meredith Carr directly.

Take your first step today – not tomorrow or next month. Contact either of us so we can share some of the excitement and opportunities for you to get involved, build your network, learn and transfer that knowledge back to your teams. All focused on building a better industry and your stronger company bit by bit.

PDA's strategic directions are driven by input from the membership of people just like you, and approved by the board of directors. The organization is working on the next phase of its evolution and I want to share with you a few of the exciting directions and related initiatives to come:

Bring Back Polyurea Listings

These are qualified listings of manufacturers of polyurea. To achieve this listing the manufacturer will submit a set of details about their product and the PDA Technical Committee will review for true polyurea formulation for use of that product in specific fields of application. It gives our sponsors a way to show their lines of qualified products and empowers the contractors with multiple lines of product to pick from for specific applications.

Publish More Technical White Papers to the Member's Portal

Resources for all members! The technical committee members love what they do. They're wired for this. Specs and standards are their thing, discussing meaningful technical details of products and the industry excite them, and they are all industry pros in some respect. Advancing the industry so we can all stay competitive, growing, and sharing knowledge means staying on top of impactful industry technical issues. Discussion and agreement areas on these issues are captured and presented in useful Technical and White Papers accessed through the member portal. The papers can be used to show your clients that these types of jobs have been done in the past with great success, and the type of prep and spray procedures needed to complete the job correctly.

Deliver Quarterly Applicator Spray Education in the US and One in S. America

These classes will give the contractors the true fundamentals for applying polyurea correctly to multiple types of substrate. We already hosted a Q1 class at MCC with great attendance. Classes instruct professionals on why using the correct polyurea for the job application is so important. Aspiringly, the South American market is growing for polyurea application and currently does not get the opportunity for reliable training without traveling to the US for it. We are looking into the ability to hold classes there for ease of travel and to make sure that the applications in this area are being applied in a way that stands the test of time. By creating experience and knowledge in the industry we are assuring the consistent growth, reliability and reputation of polyurea for generations to come.

Our overall goal with the these and all PDA strategic directions is to make sure that our members are getting the most out of joining the PDA. We will also be looking to gain more corporate sponsorships for the 2023 year. It is our belief that this sponsorship money can go towards offsetting the cost of training for our members and give us the funding to get the majority of our strategic plans accomplished in a much shorter period of time. These affordable sponsorships are also an incredible way for companies in the industry to show their leadership and commitment to our collective future. (Hint - if you're interested in sponsoring, please contact Meredith while opportunities still exist).

We can accomplish these goals and so much more with polyurea pros just like you volunteering your knowledge and experience. It’s time to roll our sleeves up and give back to the industry that has provided for us. We hope you join our efforts and I would like to thank you in advance for whatever you can offer!

About PDA

Beginning in 2000 the Polyurea Development Association (later shortened to PDA) was the trade association that represented polyurea technology. Its volunteers worked tirelessly to help explain, train and promote this amazing technology.

In the ensuing years, PDA expanded its reach to include thick-film high performance elastomers as well as still being the leading voice of polyurea technology. By adding adjacent technologies like urethanes and hybrids that have similar uses, as well as related primers and topcoats, PDA become a clearinghouse for applicators, formulators, raw material companies and others involved in our industry.
